about

Dead Idol Records 002

From the liner notes of the Dead Comp:

"We are living in an age where we all must make a choice. Should we define ourselves by the public demand or should we hold on to our vision no matter how impoverished it may leave us? This is the great struggle of humanity within the monetary system. The fact is everyone has to eat and we live in a system where money = food. Because we were born into this system we all have to answer the question: Should we be ourselves or should we be what the system wants us to be? There are some who have the question answered for them. Some have no choice but to give up their dreams, they have families to feed and bills to pay. Some may change their answer over time while others may not even acknowledge the question. The fact is most people will relinquish everything that makes them an individual in order to “fit in” with society. “Fitting in” is the easy answer, you won't cause any fuss and you will basically be left alone. The public won't criticize you or hate you for who you are, you won't have to hear their insults or their laughter. You will float through life without any resistance, but you will pay a price. The price you will pay is yourself and that may be the greatest price of all. All your ideas all the things that make you you will be thrown aside in favor of a life without resistance.

Artists around the world have struggled with this same question. The truth is art cannot coexist with a monetary system. The only way to keep art pure, the only way to keep art as art, is to create art for art's sake. Since the beginning of the music industry musicians have had to surrender their vision in order to survive. When you look back at the history of music you will often find that the great artists who held onto their vision were also starving. The masses have a diluted view of music. To most people, popularity and record sales = quality. The major record labels have built idols of the radio that are unquestionably worshiped by the people. Music is quickly becoming nothing more than a product. Most bands will give up their vision in order to please the masses, but there are still a few bands that refuse to be stripped of their artistic freedom. It is through these fearless bands that the new music revolution is being carried out. With the invention of new technology comes a new platform for these music revolutionaries to share their art with the world. It's time to tear down the idols of the system and build our new world from the ashes. This is the Dead Comp. This is an album for you, for me, for anyone who cares. This is an album for the musical revolution. Music before money, bands before business."
